The Dandiya Queen will take home the whopping amount for her nine-night-long stint in Navratri this year, with organisers coughing up Rs 22 lakh for each night.
She isn’t called the Dandiya Queen for nothing -- eager to cash in on
her presence in their Navratri festivities this year, event management
firm Mangal has offered singer Falguni Pathak a whopping Rs 2 crore.
This means she will bag Rs 22 lakh for each day that she performs in the
nine-day festival from October 5 to October 13 this year.
Last year, the performer took home Rs 1.6 crore for belting out
her foot-tapping numbers. In 2010, she was paid Rs 1.8 crore for her
Navratri stint in Ankleshwar, Gujarat. Navratri organisers in the city
suffered heavy losses that year, as footfall decreased in her absence.
According to sources, a deposit amount has already been paid, and the
deal is set to be inked this week. Neither Falguni nor Gaurav Kothari of
Mangal preferred to comment on the story.
A presentation
made by the organisers to the sponsors reveal that a consumer night
festival is also in the offing, in which exhibitors can display their
products and services, which will be viewed by the 1.5-lakh plus
audience that graces the festival over the nine days.
A
source said, “We all noticed that the market was down in the year that
Falguni wasn’t in Mumbai. Every year, her price increases, but she still
has takers. There are people who would offer her more than even this
amount.” Last year, Falguni was paid Rs 17 lakh per night. While
organisers have tried to woo her to the central suburbs, she insists on
performing at the Goregaon Sports Club, which is thronged by dandiya
lovers in the city every year.
